CCSE test: structure, content and how to pass
The CCSE test (constitutional and sociocultural knowledge of Spain) has 25 three-option or true/false questions, organized into five tasks, and lasts 45 minutes. You need 15 correct answers (60%) to pass. 60% of the questions cover government, legislation and citizen participation, and 40% cover culture, history and society. It costs 85 €, and the results are available about 20 days later.
| Task | Content | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Government, branches of government and state institutions, fundamental laws and citizen participation | 10 |
| 2 | Duties and rights associated with Spanish nationality | 3 |
| 3 | Territorial organization and the physical and political geography of Spain | 2 |
| 4 | Traditions, cultural aspects and important events in Spanish history | 3 |
| 5 | Daily life, social behavior and administrative procedures | 7 |
Tasks 1, 2 and 3 make up the government, legislation and citizen participation section, while tasks 4 and 5 cover Spanish culture, history and society. Real Decreto 1004/2015 sets the proportions: 60% of the questions cover the Constitution and administrative and territorial organization, and 40% cover culture, history and society. All questions are closed-ended and have the same value.
How to pass
Each correct answer is worth 1 point. Incorrect and unanswered questions do not deduct points. To receive a pass («apto»), you must answer 15 of the 25 questions correctly. Grading is automatic. The certificate only states pass, fail («no apto») or did not attend («no presentado»).
How to prepare
- Study the preparation materials from Instituto Cervantes, which are included in the registration fee.
- The questions are written in current Peninsular Spanish and include a glossary of terms.
- Take practice tests to become familiar with the three-option and true/false formats.
